Dining, Texas Style
Went and had dinner with Dok and Masha last night.
We went to a restaurant called, “Chuy’s” which offered Tex Mex style. I’ve never had Tex Mex and was really looking forward to it in addition to, of course, hanging out with Dok and Masha.
After a very scenic route, we arrived and managed to get a table almost immediately outside on the patio. Actually a nice night for doing that, even if it is a bit hotter in Houston than I’m used to.
I decided to order the “Elvis Presley Combo Platter” which was 3 different types of enchiladas, (beef, chicken and cheese), two quesadillas, taco, rice and refried beans. Oi Vey that’s a lot of food but it was actually pretty cheap. I figured if I was going to do this, I should do it right.
Dok ordered the same thing and Masha got a steak burrito or enchilada...but hers was spicy/hot. Masha and I also ordered margaritas. I’ve never had a margarita before so I ordered strawberry and Masha got the “real” margarita. She let me taste hers and it’s good....but I think the strawberry margaritas could be dangerous for me. heh.
The food came and I plowed in. It was so! good! It tasted almost like the Mexican food at “authentic” Mexican restaurants back in Seattle but a little more flavorful and a little more...zest.
I didn’t finish. I was stuffed about halfway through. I did manage to force one more bite down my throat when Masha asked me to try hers...man! It was good! I will order that next time...even if it is hot.
We had some exceptional after dinner conversation and then it was suggested we go to the movies. We piled back in the car and started to pull out when Masha asked if I would like to just go to their house and have tea instead.
Yah. I would like that better. So, we went....Dok and Masha convinced I was going to be horrified once I walked through the door. Silly. Their apartment was nice and man did they get a sweet bedroom set...for free! I need some rich friends who are going to just give their things away.
We sat down and talked about all kinds of things. Dok showed me his bike....it’s amazing, powerful and a little intimidating. He offered to let me sit on it but I chickened out. It’s a big bike.
One time, we were outside, smoking and I was walking back into their apartment when Dok decided he needed to point out a cockroach to me. He said it was yay big, indicating the size with his thumb and finger. I couldn’t see it...I was looking really hard for it when suddenly all I saw was a stream of spit and a bug hauling ass.
Yes. Dok spat on the cockroach. Still cracks me up. Poor Masha was embarrassed.
Shortly after that I had to get going because Masha needed more sleep. I had a blast with these two and hope to get to do it again someday. She’s in her residency, he’s an EMT going to Med school....those times will be few and far between...but these two are quite the pair.
I’m so thrilled I got to spend the time with them. Thanks Dok and Masha! Next time, MY treat!
