Indoctrinating Our Youth

image

Twice today I bore witness to children voicing their adoration for St. Hope and Change.  Twice today, they were corrected.

Overheard at the check out counter tonight at the grocery store:

Girl child staring at a magazine in the magazine rack with St. Hope and Change on the cover:  “Look Mommy!  Obama!!”

Mother 1:  “Ugh.  Put that back.”

Mother 2:  “What was that about?”

Mother 1:  “She was looking at an Obama magazine.  He’ll turn this country into another Cuba.  There’s so many ignorant people.”

Yes, they were Cuban.  Thank GOD there are smart people in Miami.

Earlier today we had a group of about 60 school kids, black, hispanic, latin, come out to take airboat rides as a field trip.  About 20 minutes after they left, I was called to take a boat of tourists.  On my way out with my tour, I passed one of the boats with some of the school kids on it as it was returning.  About 10 of the kids looked at the people on my boat and started chanting:  “Obama!  Obama!  Obama!”

Sigh.

I stood up.  Put my hands in to the form of peace signs and chanted back, “McCain!  McCain!  McCain!”

A few of them stopped chanting and looked at me in bewilderment while some of them continued.

Later, I went to clean one of the alligator pits and there were some of the kids hanging around looking at some of the larger gators we have.  As I went about my business one piped up, “Hey!  Aren’t you the one that said, ‘McCain’?”

I said, “Yes.  I am.”

They started to chant, “Obama!  Obama!  Obama!”

I let them have their little fun while I continued to get everything set up.  About 1 minute later, another girl walked up to the group, saw me and said, “Hey!  You’re that girl!  Didn’t you say, ‘McCain’?”

I replied, “Damn straight I did.”

They looked at me in shock for a few seconds.  Then they started to say, “Obama!  Obama!  Obama!”

I said, “You aren’t even old enough to vote so I don’t care what you say.”

They started laughing.  I said, “Look, kids, to quote a famous person, and I want you to look this up later, ‘If you aren’t a liberal when you’re younger, you have no heart.  If you aren’t a conservative when you’re older, you have no brain.” (I think I got that mostly right.)

They stopped, immediately, with the Obama chant.  They stared at me.  Slowly, a few at a time, they started to become interested in who I was and what I was doing.  I invited them over to where I was to ask questions about the alligators.  I let them know, in that way, that a McCain supporter may actually be pretty damn smart and that no, I’m not a racist.  They were enthralled with me.

Boo yah!

One youth at a time.

FUCK you, St. Hope and Change.  For every child you try to indoctrinate, there’s a parent or other adult out there who will steer them straight.
