It's Not Like It Matters
Some days I really, truly despise people. Nothing pisses me off more than when people hurt children or animals. Actually, no, what pisses me off more than that is when someone inflicts enormous pain or murders a child or animal and they get off with nothing more than a tiny slap on the wrist that is so ridiculous the court may as well have just kissed the hand of the criminal.
So another jackass decided it would be hilarious to light a kitten, (named William), on fire and watch it burn. He gets caught. And what sort of punishment does he receive? Via the Daily Telegraph:
....[A] whirlwind appeal has allowed [an] 18-year-old to walk free and he now only faces 100 hours of community service for his part in William’s death.
The RSPCA is furious over the courts’ leniency towards people who torture animals – especially when they could face a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment and/or a $22,000 fine.
“William suffered horrific injuries and died a horrible death and all William’s death is considered to be worth is 100 hours of community service,” RSPCA chief inspector Don Robinson told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.
...William, a cute grey-and-white kitten, received second degree burns to 30 per cent of his body after petrol was poured over his small body and then set alight at Mt Druitt in January.
William – named after William “Braveheart” Wallace – died in February after an operation at the Sydney University Vet Hospital to reconstruct his skin.
...Staines faced Penrith Local Court last month where he was found guilty of aggravated cruelty to the kitten and was sent to jail for a non-parole period of eight months by Magistrate Ian McRae.
It is alleged a 15-year-old was with him during the attack. The decision was appealed, which resulted in Staines facing Penrith District Court last Friday. He was freed and ordered instead to complete 100 hours of community service."

Hey, who cares....it’s just another dumb animal. It’s just a stupid little kitten. Right? Isn’t that the attitude we are displaying? Animals are beneath us therefore, it’s perfectly acceptable to beat them, torture them, abuse them, burn them, suffocate them, drown them, etc. because hey! We humans know what’s best for every living fucking creature on this entire planet.
Do people not understand that when a person does something like this it is more than just about the killing or torture of the animal? Do they not understand that this person is more likely to turn his attention to human beings and start hurting them? Do we not fucking get this? Of course for me it’s enough that these assholes are hurting animals and they, as I see it, should pay and pay dearly but for those out there who do have the mindset, “It’s just an animal”, we still have to take this stuff seriously because anyone who would do this to an animal is a fucked up individual. They need help NOW before they progress to humans.
This doesn’t have a damn thing to do with “animal rights” or PETA or anything like that. This has everything to do with getting sick fucking bastards off the street to pay for their crimes. If someone can so flippantly take the life of a trusting tiny kitten, it means they have no value for life. But hey, just go pick up some litter at the local park. It’s ok that you burned a kitten to death. No big deal. By all means, take your frustrations out on that donkey and beat the living shit out of him. Who cares. Dumb animal. Hey, steal your boyfriend’s dog and drown him in the tub because he “got in the way” of your relationship. La de da. Who cares.
Let me remind you of a little story. Remember Polly Klaas? She was the little girl who was abducted from her home and murdered by some big, ugly piece of shit in Pomona, CA? Remember her? Innocent, sweet little girl? It was discovered later that the murderer had a thing for lighting the neighborhood cats on fire if they wandered into his yard. I’m CERTAIN 100 hours of community service would have taught him a thing or two about life. Oh yes. That’s just the psychological help he needed. Nothing says, “I understand what I did was wrong” like giving the community 10 or 11 days of your time even though you get to go home and watch t.v., eat, sleep in your own bed, go out and party, have friends over and relax in the comfort of your own home.
Need I remind you of my own biological father? He would put our german shepard dog out in the yard to attract male dogs and when said male dogs came in to the yard for a social visit, he would hang them from the roof? Then he would go inside and beat his kids and wife? He served no time for the torture and murder of these animals, served no time for beating his wife, served one year for beating one of his kids, (me), and then! To really send the message home to him, they allowed him to be a cop years later! Oh yah, they sure taught him a lesson.
We put people behind bars for destructing another person’s non living property but if they want to torture or kill an animal? Pscht. Hey, fair game. Not like it matters. One less kitten or dog in the world to deal with. It’s perfectly acceptable and understandable. Isn’t that the message? Fuck it, let’s all light kittens on fire. It’s not like it means anything.
(Do I really have to point out that this was dripping in heavy sarcasm?)
