Preparations

Many of us live in areas where we get some sort of smack down by Mother Nature.  I live in hurricane country, have for 4 years now and I’ve learned what I have to do to prepare myself.  It doesn’t matter to me what the forecasters say about the cone of death, the trajectory, the 5 different paths the hurricane could take, I go ahead and get prepared, just in case.

And this is what I’m starting to do now.  Actually, have been doing for awhile.  A lot of people out there just don’t seem to think that anything bad is going to happen with this current administration.  They think that everything will work itself out.  They think St. Hope and Change is doing a good job.  Then there are other people who don’t think he’s doing a good job but also really don’t think anything really bad is going to happen.  Maybe things will be slim for awhile but certainly not all that bad.

I just don’t have that kind of faith with this current administration.  I truly do not.  I think we are just seeing the beginning of the shit that is going to blow up in our faces, soon.  The DOW has lost a couple thousand points since he got elected.  People are losing their jobs.  The damn government is going against a group of people because they don’t like the fact that they gave people bonuses, although they were FORCED to take the money and the bonus clause was written in to it and damnit!  IT’S FUCKING UNCONSTITUTIONAL WHAT THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO DO TO AIG!  Get that through your heads, people!  These assholes are supposed to protect the Constitution, not pick it apart and re-write what they don’t like.  That is fucking treason in my book.

Bail outs left and right, more “stimulus packages” shoved under the radar, more ridiculous considerations for bills, on and on it goes.  Dudes, it has only been two months.  Two.  Months.  That’s it.

This POS still hasn’t made it through his first 100 days and this, THIS is what he is doing to our country?  Do we actually think we are going to make it to 2010 to hopefully get the Dems out of Congress and get it Republican controlled again so that we might have a fighting chance?  Do we really have that long to wait?

Why do you all think guns and ammo are flying off the shelves?  Because people are not trusting this government.  People are beginning to stock up on canned goods, what ammo they can find, guns they can get, they are buying seeds for gardens at home and preparing themselves to have to live off of the land.

And some out there call them nuts.  Paranoid.  Crazy.  Overreacting.

No, asshole.  If you see a storm coming, you don’t wait until it hits, you prepare beforehand.  If it DOESN’T hit, then you are thankful.  But if it does, do you really want to be caught out there with your pants down, totally unprepared, hoping the government will come and help you out?

In 2005, we had Katrina and Wilma.  These fucking idiots in this city did not prepare.  I did.  I was new here and because I had never been in a hurricane before, I was a little anxious.  I LISTENED to the newscasters and got their little hurricane preparation pamphlet.  I read their websites.  I listened to the dudes on the radio.  I went out and did everything they said to do.

And those hurricanes came.  And they did a nice job of thrashing shit around for awhile.  And people did not have electricity or water and I swear to you, not 5 minutes after the storm, they were out, looking for someone to help them.  Not help them get the tree off of their house.  Not help them because they were injured.  Help them with food and water.  I have a wind up radio, (I call it my Gilligan radio), and because I had no electricity, I listened to the radio.  I heard hundreds of people calling in asking the most stupid questions in the world.

“Well how am I supposed to feed my baby her formula if I don’t have running water that I can drink?”

IDIOT!  Why didn’t you stock up on water BEFORE the storm?  Oh, you didn’t think anything would happen to you?  OH!  You thought the government would be right there, the second it was all over, to give you food, water and ice?  Do you realize that you just went through a hurricane?  There are trees down in the road.  Power lines are down.  Has it occurred to you that if YOU can’t get gas then maybe some of those trucks that are bringing supplies from up north ALSO can’t get gas?  Sure, they were gassed up before they left but they had to get MORE gas to get to us.  And you all jammed the gas stations because you didn’t fill your tank before the hurricane.  The trucks have a reason to be out on the road.  You do not.  You just want to go and look at all the devastation to take photos and tell all your friends, dramatically, how you narrowly escaped death!

If there is no power and the store owner does not have a generator, no gas pumps.  If they do have a generator, eventually that gas runs out because the gas trucks haven’t made it here yet.  So, you tell me, idiot fuck, just how are you going to feed your baby the formula without running, drinkable water?  And please, then, explain to me WHY THE FUCK you didn’t ask yourself that question BEFORE the storm!

I see a hurricane coming.  Will it hit us or veer off, I don’t know.  But which is more stupid?  Sitting back and calling someone who prepares for the worst, an idiot while you do not prepare or getting everything together before the storm so you can ride it out and take care of yourself?

The government should not be what you look to to take care of you.  YOU are solely responsible for you.  You are the one who needs to prepare, stock up, make plans, and educate yourself how to make it through the storm.  If you sit back and do nothing expecting the government to bail you out of your idiocy, you are going to be waiting awhile.

Just like the shitheels after Katrina and Wilma.  All that time spent wailing and howling about how you don’t have this or that, you could have spent that time going to the store and stocking up before the storm.  Then you could have been like me.  I was at home with plenty of food, plenty of water and ice, plenty of animal food, plenty of gas and money.  I didn’t go driving around looking for things to snap photos of.  I stayed the fuck home like they told us to do.  I didn’t sit in a water/ice distribution center with my car RUNNING for three hours while I waited and then complained loudly on the radio about how I ran out of gas while waiting for water and ice.  (Turn off the engine numbnuts.)

No.  What I did was get my sleeping bag, my flashlight, (the one with the new batteries), my Gilligan radio and went to my living room to make a little camp.  And I ate and drank and listened to you toolsheds calling in to the radio station to complain about how you didn’t have anything.  And frankly, I laughed at you all.  For being fucking stupid.

So, when I see a storm coming, I’m going to prepare.  I’m going to stock up on canned food.  I’m going to stock up on ammo.  I’m going to stock up on water.  I’m going to learn what I’m allowed to plant out here even if I have to use planters to be in compliance with the law.  (Because of where I live.) I had to pull weeds and tend to the “crops” every summer as a kid and while I hated and loathed it and wanted only to go to the swimming pool, it will come back and help me should the storm hit.  I learned something all those summers doing that crap work.  I know how to fish.  I don’t like fish but hey, I’ve starved, literally, before and you learn to eat things that you don’t like just to have something to eat.  I’ve never actually killed another mammal before but if it comes to it, I’ll have to do it, won’t I?  And I’ll have to deal with gutting it and getting all the fur off and chopping the head and feet off and whatever else.  It’s something I’ll have to get over.  IF it comes to that.  And I’m on the web, educating myself HOW to do that, just in case.

My neighbors are not going to be prepared.  Most of them hated everything about Bush because they listened to the LSM and formed their opinions solely on that.  Most of them don’t know a thing about St. Hope and Change.  Most of them are completely clueless when it comes to anything political.  They THINK they know but 5 minutes spent with them and you realize they are fucking morons on the subject.  So they won’t be prepared.

And most of them are strung out on something...what will happen when they can’t get their fix?  How much nastier will they become?  Most of them don’t have guns because they aren’t allowed to have guns.  Well, your little knife and your pathetic wrestling classes aren’t going to help you out against a gun.  And yes, I am saying that.  IF the storm hits, my neighbors are going to suffer.  And suffering people do not do rational things.  And I’m going to protect myself.

I’m not telling my neighbors how much I have stocked up.  They’ll be over here breaking in and trying to freeload.  Or trying to play up my sympathies.  Fuck the lot of them.  I have a long memory.  Most of these pieces of shit made my life a living hell for about 5 months.  I don’t forget that shit.  I don’t care if they suffer.  Before you go thinking I’m a completely cold hearted asshole, remember that you don’t know the whole story and you don’t know me.

I will help people I deem worthy.  I will help those who TRY to help themselves.  And I don’t mean AFTER the storm hits, IF it does, I mean those who have been trying to help themselves all along.  In this area, that isn’t very many people.

Also remember, that one must protect themselves first and foremost.  You cannot help anyone else if you cannot help yourself.  So, yes, I will be taking care of #1.  That’s me.  Me and my cats.

IF this comes to pass.

Again, though, you can laugh and say I’ve been listening to Glenn Beck too much or that I’m finally cracking up and losing it but what difference does it make to you if I prepare myself for the worst outcome?  What does it hurt you?  If the storm does not come to pass, well, then, I have a lot of goods I can use over the years.  Hell, maybe even donate to some food bank.  But, seriously, what do you care if I choose to pull the blinders off and say, “You know, the sky isn’t looking too good.  I think that storm just might hit.  And I think it’s going to be rough”?  What does it matter to you?

You can call me a paranoid nut all you want.  IF that storm does come to pass, just remember what I wrote here while you’re fucking starving and thirsty waiting for the government to come take care of you.  (Here’s a hint:  They aren’t going to do it.)
