So, today I went and took a test for a job which required me to travel via public transportation here in beautiful Texas. Now, the actual ride itself is really clean and the people were more friendly than I’m used to....way cool, but the length of the trip.....Oi Vey! I had to go 11 miles. It took two hours. Each way. Soon I’ll learn the short cuts but until then, I’m stuck doing it the hard way.
Anyhoo-I got to see a lot of the area and that will help me to get my bearings and learn where things are so that’s the good side of it.
The downside, besides the length of the trip? Excuse me, when it rains in Texas, it doesn’t just drizzle like in Seattle, it’s like the skies explode. The rain here is heavy and the drops are enormous. In Seattle, you can walk for a half an hour in the rain and get a bit wet. Here? You step one foot out from under cover and you are immediately drenched, rain pouring down your face. CRAZY!
And I LOVE it! That is, till I get on the bus and the driver still has the a/c going on full blast so all the water on my jacket is now turning to ICE!
No, but I really love crazy weather. It makes me happy and this area seems to have its share. My brother tells me this is just the beginning. JOY!
Anyway, won’t know about the job for 7 days. Who knows if I’ll get it. I know I missed a few questions on that test and there were TONS of people applying. We’ll see.
Hmmm...I’ve decided that’s all I’m going to share today since it’s thundering wildly out there. Need to shut down. Ciao!
[update] Ok, the lightning and thunder stopped but wtf is this!?
From WeatherBug: "Bulletin - Eas Activation Requested Tornado Warning National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 540 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2003
The National Weather Service In League City Has Issued A
* Tornado Warning For… Eastern Harris County In Southeast Texas”
Excuse me? Tornado? In Houston? I’m having mixed feelings here. On the one hand, (although I’m sure it won’t happen), I’m thinking, “Where the hell would I go in this house if there was a tornado?” There are no basements or cellars here. On the other hand, I wish so very much I had a car so I could go out and find one! (That “wanna be a storm chaser” desire rises up at the very thought.) Is this the coolest place to be or what?
