The Big Backyard
My brother has a really nice back yard....kinda big. Well, bigger than I’m used to these days anyway. Most of it is fenced in by a tall, wooden fence and a bit of it is enclosed with chain link. There is one small gap at one side, near the front of the house though.
My cat, Serenity, has not been outside in an extremely long time. She is cute, adorable and if I ever lost her, I would just die. If she was hit by a car or stolen, my world would shatter as I adore this cat so much.
I used to live in a house where my room was on the 2nd floor and I could let her out to walk around the roof while I was around. Sometimes, I’d let her do so if I was going to be gone for just a short while. She loved it. But it was relatively safe so I felt comfortable letting her do this.
Since then, however, I’ve lived either on busy streets or in open yarded places and she has been housebound.
So today, she got quite the treat. I let her roam around the backyard, (supervised of course) and she had a BLAST! Well, at first the little chicken didn’t want to come out. She stuck her nose out the door and thought about things until a bird went screeching by. She booked it back into the house and hid under the table...my brave little warrior.
After a little while, (and some coaxing from me), she worked up the nerve to stick her nose out the door again....then her full head, the her body...and then? She was off! She chomped grass, she ran, she frolicked.....she had a grand time.
There are a few places that I have to barr her from: my brother’s planter (where she can slide underneath and sit for hours), behind the shed....paooki! and down the side of the house towards that small gap where she could easily slip through.
She won’t get to do this everyday because I can already tell, her little confidence is going to build quickly and then she’ll be nearly impossible to catch to bring back inside. My brother insists this is a safe neighborhood for cats but still, if a car can drive down the road, it’s not safe enough for her.
Anyway-here’s a pic of her enjoying her little self:
Course, now that I did this, the little punk is sitting at the window meowing...what did I just do?
