The Boss Is An Idiot

Not too long ago, I worked for a complete idiot.  I’ve made mention of her here and there and some of the asinine things she has said over time and I assure you, I have an entire collection.  I could call them, “Bitch’s Greatest Hits”

Some of these I’ve mentioned before--before you write me hate mail...remember...these are NOT my words.  These are my ex boss’s words, verbatim!

“People should really get over it!” ---referring to 9/11

“I believe in the Church of Scientology!"--when pressed further, it is revealed that she has no idea what they believe in but just follows it because Tom Cruise does.

“Black people who live in the South have no right to bitch about racism!"--When I slammed her down verbally for this her response was, “They can move you know!"--I shit you not.

“I’d put eye make up on snakes!"--When having an undesired discussion about animals and certain animal testing.

There are so, so many MORONIC things this woman has said but I will not subject you to them all.  It is not fair to make you suffer the way I did.  But I do know someone else who suffered with me and I do know she reads this site from time to time.

So Katy--whenever you think that you made the wrong choice, that you should never have left there, no matter how insane she drove us, I ask you to think about this:

When it seems like Dopey’s in charge, you’re the one who’s always out of your mind.

"The boss is there and he or she is not going to change,” [Kathleen Lundin, coauthor of “When Smart People Work for Dumb Bosses: How to Survive in a Crazy, Dysfunctional Workplace."] said. “It’s you who has to change.”

The risk in staying is that you become part of the problem. By fitting in you may adopt some of your boss’s craziness just to get things done and to get along. “It’s unconscious. You just do it,” Lundin said.

And then if you still have enough energy left for reflection, you may find you’ve lost all self-respect. “You then have to get in a mode of remaking yourself,” she said.

So better to dodge a dope by leaving. That’s easier said than done in a tough job market, but at the very least you might position yourself to change departments within the company.

“Standing still has no advantages if you’re in a bad situation,” Lundin said. “You’ve just got to get out."

I hope, Katy, that someday, you will come to fully realize this and never, ever look back on your choice with regret.
