Going Public
The last time I went against the die hard right, I lost a ton of readers. I find that fascinating considering how they expect everyone to be more open minded and listen but they don’t always sip their own tea.
I still vote Republican, I will never BE a Democrat and I still hold some very right leaning beliefs but to be all or nothing, to be one extreme or the other is not healthy.
Without further ado, I am stating, right here, despite the rhetoric I hear, I am going to vote for Dr. Ron Paul.
“OMG! Serenity! He’s CRAZY! He’s an isolationist! He’ll get us all killed!!!!!!!!! BLERGH!!”
And that’s ALL you hear. You never hear WHY anyone thinks that, you just hear THAT. The main one I hear the most besides “he’s crazy” is that “he’ll get us all killed”.
That is the one I hear the most and that is the one I actually believed in 2007-2008. That was the ONLY reason I did not support Ron Paul back then.
Other things I didn’t like but when I put emotions aside, knew that they were right whether I liked that “freedom” or not. It doesn’t matter if I like it, in the end, it’s about personal freedom and that is how it should be. Otherwise, I’m like a liberal who wants laws for everything I don’t like.
One of the most difficult for me to get over is the legalization of drugs. Ron Paul is very against the War on Drugs. I had a hard time with that. But, he puts it well in this clip:
The foreign policy, let me tell you, the people who insist he’s an isolationist and will “get us all killed”, have done a very good job convincing many people and THAT is where the “Paulites”, as I used to mock them, need to focus when they talk to people about Dr. Ron Paul.
I used to believe that we had to go to the other countries to keep our freedoms. We have to go there so it doesn’t come to us, right? We don’t war on OUR soil! We need to go there and let them know, “We’re here, in your country, try any shit and we’ll pound you in to the sand.”
Sounds pretty strong doesn’t it?
But how would you feel if some other country set up camp in OUR country and did the same? Let’s say it was...China. China comes over, sets up bases all over our country basically stating, “We are here, try any shit with us, we’ll annihilate you.”
How would you feel about the Chinese?
Of course, the Chinese government will state it’s to “keep the peace” but really now...really?
Sure, who gives a flying fuck what other countries think of us. Yah, I’m pretty much in agreement with you when it comes to most of that. Like, I don’t give a flip what some Frenchman thinks about Americans and what they eat or that they are too “prudish” or anything of the sort. The guy’s French...HAHA..who cares.
But when it comes to keeping our people safe, I DO care.
I was in the military. We did our “war games”, we became a unit of people who would die for the other. I get that. I also distinctly remember watching, “Hamburger Hill” in the day room one night, with my fellow soldiers, and the scene where they are getting knocked off left and right made me angry. I was livid. I wanted to jump right in to that movie and fucking KILL! DIE! STOP KILLING OUR PEOPLE YOU ASSHOLES!
I understand the emotions behind it. I do. I really do.
But when you put the emotions aside you start to think logically.
Emotionally, it makes sense to go to another country and stand there, giving a menacing look that says, “I’m your friend...until you fuck with me and then I’ll kill you”.
I used to be ALL for waterboarding and torture. Fuck them! Torture them! They don’t deserve an OUNCE of compassion! They are terrorists and they deserve to SUFFER!
But when you put the emotions aside, you start to think logically.
First of all, we DO have a higher moral ground to stand. We can’t go tramping around the globe insisting that people stop being assholes and then act like assholes ourselves.
NO, I do NOT have pity or sympathy for terrorists. I still think, “Fuck them”, but that doesn’t mean we throw our standards out the window just because we’re pissed. If we are to “lead by example” then we must actually lead by example.
We can’t be hypocrites and demand that others stop torturing while we continue to torture. We can’t demand a stop to assassinations while we continue to assassinate. We can’t be against a dictator when we act like fricken dictators to the rest of the world! “Do it our way or face the consequences”. We can’t pick and choose who we are going to help and leave others to their own devices.
Frankly, I’m tired of going over and “helping” other countries who are ungrateful for our help. I’m tired of losing troops on a war that isn’t a “war”. I don’t think like a liberal and think the war is for oil or to avenge “Daddy Bush”, but I also think we could have gone about things in a better way.
Oh I know, so callous, I don’t care about other people in other countries.
Actually, yes I do. Sure, sitting down and “talking” doesn’t do a whole lot of good at all with some of those idiots in charge in other countries. I’m not blind to that. And yes, getting rid of Sadaam and his idiot sons and getting rid of Osama was a good thing. (Although Osama could have been gotten years ago without all this bullshit.)
But look at us now. We’re in what...Syria? Afghanistan? Yemen? We got ourselves involved in Libya, we’re all over the place.
Put your emotions aside. Seriously. Put them aside.
Do you really think this is going to end well?
I actually think we SHOULD bring our troops home, we should concentrate more on NATIONAL defense, secure our damn borders, for crying out loud, SECURE THE FLIPPIN’ BORDERS, and stop going all over the world telling people to act just like us. Listen, if the people in those countries cannot rise up and help themselves, what good are we?
If we are attacked, oh hell yes we defend ourselves. But why are we cozying up with one enemy to spite another enemy just to fricken fight that first enemy some years later? I know people who act like this with the people around them and I can’t stand it! I cannot stand people who play two sides of the coin. It IS hypocritical, it IS self serving and it IS going to come back and bite that person in the ass later on. It always does. And it will for us, as well.
I am not saying NOR implying that “we got what we deserved” because that’s bullshit. I won’t stand for that kind of talk. What I AM saying is that we have HELPED those people kill us and thousands of innocents. We taught them how to do it! Three thousand people died on September 11, 2001. We taught Osama how to do that! We, the people, did NOT deserve that. Our government taught them how to do it. ULTIMATELY it was the fault of the terrorists, that is where the fault lies. They killed 3,000 of our people. But is it really simply because we are free and prosperous?
No.
And no, I’m not of the school of Susan Sarandon and, “What have they done to us” bleating. I simply believe that we need to concentrate on taking care of our own, RIGHT HERE, and the rest of the world needs to figure it out in their own countries.
Yes, I know, there is a bigger picture. Yes, I know, if we don’t “defend” other countries, the extremism will take over in those other countries until they are all extreme except us and then, they’re going to attack us. I still don’t believe that requires we go over and occupy or “war” in their land. We have an excellent NATIONAL defense, we will be able to take care of ourselves.
Nuclear? Please, no one wins when nuclear is involved anyway no matter what we do. Going over and attacking a country with the means to create nuclear weapons is not going to make us safer. We’re screwed no matter what. UNLESS we focus on our NATIONAL defense.
We’ve had our military in other countries for eons, it seems and yet we have still been attacked on our own soil twice in recent history. Doesn’t seem to be working out so well. Pull the troops, bring them home, secure our borders and concentrate on National defense and we have a better shot.
The other one I hear a lot is Paul’s stance on Social Security.
“He wants to wipe out Social Security!!”
Well, when he calls Social Security a ponzi scheme, he’s right. It is. But he is not trying to do away with Social Security. He wants to give younger people an option to OPT OUT of Social Security. He wants to cut military spending, (NOT defense spending), as well as other spending to support Social Security for the older folks who are on it now. Social Security IS NOT WORKING the way it is now. Should we just continue doing it this way?
People call him, “crazy”. CRAZY is when you keep doing something the same way and expect different results.
He’s not crazy, he’s simply not getting heard. CBS gave him 89 seconds of air time in the debate. Eighty nine seconds.
Well why not? If you silence the man, no one gets to hear what he stands for and it’s so much easier to herd the people in to thinking things about him because, and you should know this from past experience with the media, they are scared of him. It’s not because, “he’s crazy”, it’s because they don’t WANT people to know what he stands for. Man, he’s going to “ruin it” for those people who are making BANK by keeping us in the dark and telling us who to vote for and what to think.
Follow the money trail.
Speaking of which, Ron Paul gets the most donations from the military than all other GOP candidates COMBINED and I believe the number was well over 40% what St. Hope and Change gets. Of all of those who are vying for the candidacy, Ron Paul hauls in the most from PEOPLE! CITIZENS! You and me. NOT special interest groups.
Other things Paul stands for, I HEAR people on both the left AND right saying they want, as well. But Paul said it so it’s not good enough? Why? Because he’s “crazy”? Being a constitutionalist is crazy? That’s what this country was founded on! I’m sure England felt we were “crazy” over 200 years ago, too.
Let’s go down the list of candidates:
Romney. Seriously? Romney? May as well just vote for Obama. Ever wonder why Romney is the darling of the media? He’s a fucking Democrat in disguise. RomneyCare? How is that any different than Obamacare? Oh, sure, he’s going to “let the states decide”. Right. I believe that as much as I believe I’ll wake up a millionaire tomorrow.
Perry. Seriously? Perry? Do we really need to go over some of his latest gaffes? We can’t sit there and mock Obama for saying there were 57 states but not mock Perry for not even knowing the three places he would cut. “Energy” is a difficult word to remember? Or maybe it was a talking point, bullshit, and that’s why he couldn’t remember it.
“But he’s on the campaign trail and he’s tired!”
No slack was given to “The One”, why are we giving slack to “our own”? No, it doesn’t work that way. The fact is, he doesn’t really believe what he’s saying and that is why he can’t remember what he was supposed to say.
But what really riles me up about him is that he thinks it’s A-OK for children of ILLEGAL immigrants to pay “in state college tuition”. Really?! If I go to a state and am don’t make it known that I am there by getting a place in my name, paying my taxes there or my parents paying my taxes there if I was their dependent, somehow showing I’ve actually contributed or my parents contributed to that state FOR A YEAR, I don’t get in state college tuition but he wants to give it to the children of illegal immigrants? Fuck that! Oh, but now see, that means, according to Perry that I, “don’t have heart”. The hell I don’t have a heart. I have a heart for all the other wannabe college students who are here legally, whose parents are here legally. No, he’s too light on illegal immigration.
Cain. Sigh. Does ANYONE understand that 999 plan? And some of the things he’s said lately...boy, sure says a lot about who HE is. People are poor because they WANT to be? WOW! Yes, when I was homeless and starving, it wasn’t because bad timing and shit luck, it was because I WANTED TO BE THAT WAY. Nevermind I had just got out of the military and was in college learning, it was because I wanted to be homeless and starving. What a prick. And is it really that hard for these guys to keep their damn hands to themselves? (I know, it’s allegation....at this point.) He is way too much drama.
Gingrich. Does Gingrich really even take this seriously? I have yet to be convinced.
Sanatorium, no. Bachman, no. That other guy, no.
I sure as hell am not voting for Obama, (may as well vote for Romney if I want more of the same but “feel better” because there’s an R behind his name), so who does that leave me with?
The one who predicted what is happening right now, years ago. He predicted it, they called him “crazy”.
The one who wants to actually secure the borders.
The one who wants to cut out bullshit spending.
The one who wants limited government.
The one who will take a $39,000 (or something like that), salary if he becomes President instead of the $400,000 salary.
The one who wants to bring the troops home and focus on National defense.
The one who wants to follow the Constitution.
The one who wants to clean up shop and get us back to being the country we are supposed to be.
The one who has predicted all of this for years.
The one who has remained consistent.
The one the media tries to block out and mocks.
The one who is not more of the same.
That person is Dr. Ron Paul.
I used to be a die hard Republican. The fact is, THAT was crazy. Ron Paul is NOT.
