That Thing You Do

I’ve often wondered if my idea of “love” was too fairy tale; that maybe I didn’t live in reality when it came down to what it was.  I have looked around throughout this life for examples of my definition.  Unfortunately, I rarely see it but when I do, it blows me away because those rare times it is seen, it’s exactly what I’ve thought it was supposed to be my entire life.

Every single morning since he moved in with me last summer, he got up before me, made coffee and brought me a cup, and sat on the edge of the bed and ran his fingers through my hair for a few minutes simply because he knows I love that more than anything.

That came from Rachel Lucas’ site in an entry she wrote about having to say good bye, temporarily, to her loved one as he gets ready to go to the giant sand box to help the good people.

That right there illustrates, probably more than anything I’ve ever seen or read, exactly what I thought love should be and what true love really is.  And to go even further, what her guy is doing illustrates his level of love not only for her but for his country.  Can you even possibly imagine what kind of world this would be if there were a billion Ruperts and less selfish assholes out there?

The post is about him being deployed....but there is so much more in that post that it makes one pause to think and examine what’s going on in their own lives.
