Today we had major storms here in Houston. The lightning and thunder was intense. The thunder simply never stopped rolling for over 3 hours. There wasn’t even a second, not a single second in between thunderous crashes and the lightning cracked every 10-20 seconds. Then the rain began to fall. This is what the front looked like at 3:30pm this afternoon:
To give you an idea of how deep that is, I had to go fish the garbage can out of the middle of the street and I got soaked up to my lower calves from the level of the rain water.
In addition there were flash flood warnings, dangerous lightning storm warnings and tornado warnings. The wind didn’t get too bad but the other two warnings, they weren’t kidding. Considering that for about an hour of that lightning storm, the lightning was right here in this neighborhood, I didn’t do a damn thing today. Sure, I need a job but it is not worth getting zapped by some 100 million volts of electricity. (That’s not an exaggeration: Lightning Facts.) Even so, I also didn’t do anything because I managed to get myself sick. Yesterday I stood out in the rain and then went to bed still soaking wet, next to my open window. Take my advice: Don’t ever do that.
By the way, I’ve decided my brother is an idiot for not having a television in this house. He doesn’t like t.v., fair enough but at least have one for the news for when conditions get like this. See, my brother tells me this house is not in the low part of Houston that is always getting flooded. If it was like that here, what was it like in other areas? A t.v. might be a good thing? The second I’m able, I’m buying a t.v.
