Wow, I Am Humbled
Every so often someone will comment or email me that I’m a good writer. Kids...I appreciate the compliment but I just can’t even begin to accept that I am. Not when there are people like this guy out there:
A chronicle of wanderings by horseback throughout the American West with commentary on the state of this once great nation and our character as a people. View these musings as they are intended; to Provoke, Inform, and Entertain.
The post I’ve linked to sums up so much of what I’ve been trying to say. He manages to take subjects that I’m incredibly passionate about and wrap them up; tie them together to create a story that is not only incredibly well written but brings out just about every emotion in a 5 minute span. THAT, my friends, is a damn good writer. My junk pales in comparison.
Here’s an example of how he writes things I’ve thought but have never been able to put together in a coherent, well structured way:
Next time somebody asks for money to rebuild a disaster like Haiti or a variety of other toxic waste dumps around the world, think about the plight of the four legged creatures that share our lives and bring us comfort and joy but are abandoned and have no hope and no voice right here at home.
Folks are appalled at such reasoning, but it comes down to this. My life is better for the presence of God’s four legged critters that share our world and our lives. Our lives are in no way improved by the existence of savages and the toxic waste of people too stupid not to produce a progeny they can not feed, educate or care for.
My GOD I wish I could write like that.
This particular post is about a dog he found abandoned in the desert. Every place has some location where people dump their animals off for whatever bullshit excuse they can think of. I see it in the Everglades, people see it in the desert; there’s a place near you, as well. But this guy went beyond what I normally do and he’s quite the motivator for me to do even more when I see something like this. It’s one thing to rescue and find a home for an abandon animal, it’s another to go beyond to see if one can find who did it and have them prosecuted. It’s a long shot but I admire the hell out of this guy for even trying.
Please, visit this guy’s site. It’s wonderful. He is the epitome of a great, honorable and caring American citizen. If there were more people like him in this country, this country would be as wonderful as it once was, again. I truly am humbled.
(Thank you to Richard Stevens for bringing this blog to my attention. What a gift.)
